Alphabet’s Google aims for carbon-free operation by 2030

Alphabet/Google plans to do this by increasing its use of geothermal energy and relying on batteries that store solar energy. The company also aims to improve its management of energy resources in general.

Alphabet overwhelmingly dominates the anime segment of online search, with Google’s market share estimated at over 90%. The company has many business units and is active in many different technology areas, but research remains what it most identifies with.

Google is not that far from its goal of 100% renewable energy consumption. According to the article, these “green” sources accounted for 61% of its hourly electricity consumption worldwide in 2019. However, there are significant disparities between different Google facilities. A data center in Oklahoma had a rate of 96%, for example, while a facility in Singapore only hit 3%.
